UTC Student Death; One found dead in an on-campus residence

There is no suspicion of foul play, learn more about the incident

UTC Student Death – A University of Tennessee at Chattanooga student passed away on Tuesday, November 7, afternoon in an on-campus residence.. According to the school, there is no suspicion of foul play, and they will not release the name of the student to protect the privacy of the family and friends who are directly impacted by this loss.

The Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) has already been in contact with the student’s family, and they are in the process of contacting students and employees known to be directly impacted. The University’s CARE Team (www.utc.edu/care) has been activated and will respond accordingly.

According to the school; Losing a member of our community is a tragedy. University resources are available to assist students, faculty, and staff in need 24/7: The Counseling Center will offer individual counseling sessions for students during their regular hours of operation. To make an appointment, students should call (423) 425-4438 or visit the University Center, Room 338 between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM.

The Office of Student Outreach & Support (SOS) will offer support and referral services. Faculty, staff, and students can share names of individuals they are concerned about (students, faculty, or staff) by submitting a Community Member of Concern Form (www.utc.edu/coc), e-mailing [email protected], or calling (423) 425-2299.
Group debrief sessions will be coordinated by the Counseling Center and SOS at a time to be determined. If you believe there are specific groups that would benefit from such a debrief, please contact the Office of Student Outreach & Support (SOS) by e-mailing [email protected].

Employees impacted may utilize support available through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Employees and their eligible dependents, regardless of whether they participate in the Group Insurance Program, who may be experiencing personal or work place problems may access the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). EAP services are provided at no cost and all services are strictly confidential and can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 1-855-HERE4TN (1-855-437-3486).

Students, faculty, and staff experiencing crisis after hours contact the UTC CARE line at (423) 425-CARE (2273), to be connected to after-hours services including crisis counseling.
