Mason Halsey Death – Mason Halsey, a midshipman first class, passed away on Monday while he was absent for holiday leave in Mississippi, according to the United States Naval Academy. 22-year-old Halsey was a native of Gulfport. An inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death is currently underway, according to a post made by the school on social media.
Since his first year of college, Halsey has been a member of the coed cheerleading team, in addition to being a member of the 5th Company and majoring in political science. In the year 2020, Halsey became a graduate of West Harrison High School, where he participated in the sport of soccer.
According to Spirit Team Coach Kimberly Salyers: “One thing that always stood out about Mason is that he always wanted to help train our new members. He had cheer experience prior to attending the Naval Academy and was very passionate about training and helping others achieve their goals. Even when the cheer season was over he would constantly text me to see if he could hold stunt sessions. He was always available during plebe summer to assist me with the incoming plebes and even received his cheer certification to be able to be a safety observer.”
When it comes to collegiate football, the United States Naval Academy is represented by the Navy Midshipmen football team, which competes in NCAA Division I FBS. In 2014, the Naval Academy finished its final season as a full-fledged independent school. Beginning with the 2015 season, the Naval Academy joined the American Athletic Conference as a single-sport member.
