Stan Savran Death – Famous Pittsburg, PA sports news broadcaster has passed away. 76-year-old Stan Savran died Monday evening from cancer complications. The 2003 Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Famer was pronounced dead at the hospital earlier this evening. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones at the time of his passing. Savran was born in Cleveland, but in 1976 he moved to Pittsburgh. Savran worked for the Steelers and ran shows for the Penguins and Pirates before and after games. Savran was admitted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame’s Western Chapter in 2003. Stan Savran was a famous person. A real expert, but even more important, a great guy. Stan was a good friend and a good teacher.

So many throw the phrase “Pittsburgh sports icon” around so much. But tonight the icon, The godfather of Pittsburgh Sports, The legend Stan Savran has passed away. So many nights of my youth were spent watching you on sports beat on KBL and Fox Sports. Pre and Post-game memories of all the Penguins and Pirates games you anchored.
