Sgt. Jeremy McCoy Death – Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Jeremy McCoy has sadly passed away. He died on Sunday 11th June 2023 after being involved in an accident that also left his child injured. According to multiple sources, Sgt. Jeremy who had been off-duty and driving his personal vehicle, was involved in the wreck around 4 p.m. on Highway 198 near the Phalba Community. Tragically, McCoy did not survive the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sgt. Jeremy McCoy Career
According to reports, one of McCoy’s children was with him in the car at the time of the incident. Fortunately, the child was transported via life-flight to a Dallas hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. McCoy began his law enforcement career in 2006 as a telecommunications operator for the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, before joining the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department in May 2022. He was promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant just a few months later in September 2022, a testament to his hard work, dedication, and commitment to protecting his community.
The Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation into the accident, but at this time, it is unclear what caused the wreck or the condition of the other driver involved. He leaves behind a wife and four children, who will undoubtedly miss him dearly. McCoy will always be remembered as a hero who devoted his life to serving and protecting his community.
