Sara Monger Death – The Elkton and Harrisonburg, Virginia communities are mourning the tragic death of a student who passed away in deadly car accident early Saturday. According to Harrisonburg Police Department, 18-year-old Sara Monger died in the vehicle crash that injured two other. The tragic incident happened early Saturday morning in the 200 block of Vine Street.
The Harrisonburg Police Department is investigating the cause of a single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of the driver and injured two passengers early Saturday morning. The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 3:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, about a vehicle that had crashed into a power pole in the 200 block of Vine Street. No other vehicles were involved.
The driver, an 18-year-old woman from Elkton, was declared deceased at the scene. One passenger, an 18-year-old man from Aylett, Virginia, was flown to UVA Medical Center, and the other passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Ruckersville, Virginia, was taken to Sentara RMH. HPD does not have information on the condition of the passengers at this time.
HPD’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash site in order to determine the cause. Speed has been identified as one factor that contributed to the crash. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Sgt. Wayne Westfall at 540-437-2672. The Harrisonburg Fire Department, Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Rockingham Fire and Rescue and the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office assisted HPD in this incident.
Sara was a brilliant student at the Eastern Mennonite University ( EMU). She was an Alumni at the East Rockingham High School. Following her death, the high school wrote; “The East Rock family is devastated to hear of the passing of Sara Monger. She made a huge impact at our school during her four years with us. Sara was a model student who was also involved in a variety of sports and activities. She was a positive influence as a leader in FFA, as well as on our softball and basketball teams. She will be remembered mostly for her daily smile, and her enjoyment of all things East Rock. Our hearts go out to her family and loved ones. She will be greatly missed.”
