Police are looking for two would-be auto thieves who came dangerously close to being shot by the New Jersey house they were attempting to rob. One of the two men wanted by police went into a Roseland residence in search of a key fob before robbing a vehicle parked in the driveway. Just after 5:30 a.m. on Monday, January 9th, 2023, the two burglars entered the house in a cul-de-sac off of Rt. 280 in the shadows while scoping out the parked BMW.

One of the men managed to enter via the garage window and enter a mud room while searching for the car key. The homeowner challenged him at that point, according to the police. The attempted robber is shown on camera fleeing the house a minute or so after breaking in and making his way back to a car outside as he runs for his life. That’s because the homeowner shot the suspect with his lawfully owned firearm.

The attempted burglar was reportedly running back to a car in the street where the other suspect was waiting, according to Roseland Mayor James Spango. It’s also likely that the high-end vehicle the other suspect was waiting in was stolen. Home security cameras initially caught the pair glancing at a car next door, but as they noticed the BMW in the driveway, they walked on to the other property. Investigators were looking for any hints they could uncover, including dusting for fingerprints at the garage window where the suspect had entered the house, even though the homeowner was unwilling to speak about the incident.
