Rory Domitrovits Death – Beloved friends and New Paltz community members, Mike and Nancy Domitrovits are mourning the unexpected passing of their sweet boy, 21-year-old Rory Domitrovits who died in a tragic incident that happened this past weekend. He was announced dead today, Monday, the 30th of October 2023 by Anita Domitrovits Cunniff, a Principal Real Estate Broker.
Rory Domitrovits’ cause of death
According to the Wilmington Police Department, during the early hours of Saturday, October 28, authorities discovered a man in his twenties with severe injuries, who unfortunately passed away at the location. McGroary “Rory” John Domitrovits, a student at UNCW, was the victim of a tragic hit-and-run incident in the 700 block of Eastwood Road.
Suspect arrested
Hailey Sigg, 22, was arrested for her involvement in the crash and charged with DWI, felony hit and run, and felony death by vehicle. Despite the state’s request for a $1 million bond, it was set at $625,000 by the judge, citing that it exceeded the recommended amount for her charges.
If she posts bond, she will be placed under house arrest, required to wear a SCRAM bracelet and ankle monitor, undergo regular drug screenings, and be prohibited from working at establishments serving alcohol, including the restaurant where she was previously employed.

In the court session, it was alleged that she had been refused service at multiple bars due to her intoxicated state. The accusation suggests that she struck Domitrovits while he was crossing the road toward the beach on Eastwood, subsequently fleeing the scene before her car broke down near Carolina Bay.
According to reports, when questioned about her damaged vehicle, she initially claimed to have hit an animal. The victim’s identity remained unknown until his father filed a missing person report the following day.
The Assistant District Attorney stated that Sigg exhibited no remorse, maintaining a cheerful demeanor during sobriety tests despite registering a blood alcohol level of .15, with suspicions of additional substance use. Throughout the proceedings, she was observed in tears.
