Ricky Cobb cause of death linked to deadly shooting by State trooper in confrontation along I-94 in Minneapolis

Ricky Cobb Death – On Monday morning of July 31st, 2023, a Minnesota state trooper was involved in a fatal shooting of a motorist on Interstate 94. The trooper was conducting a patrol in Minneapolis around 2 a.m. when they noticed a car without visible taillights. The trooper subsequently initiated a traffic stop on westbound I-94, north of downtown Minneapolis. According to the statement released by the Minnesota State Patrol on Monday afternoon, the driver of the car was found to be wanted in Ramsey County for a suspected felony-level offense.

When the trooper attempted to take the driver into custody, the driver resisted and refused to exit the vehicle. In response, the driver drove away from the scene, leading to a critical incident that ultimately resulted in the trooper firing their weapon, leading to the motorist’s tragic death. During the incident, at least one trooper fired their weapon as seen in a Minnesota Department of Transportation camera video, which captured patrol cruisers pursuing the fleeing car.

The car was eventually boxed in against the median near the 42nd Avenue bridge over the interstate, resulting in the driver’s death. The man involved was identified as 33-year-old Ricky Cobb of Minneapolis. Three troopers have been placed on administrative leave, and both body and squad cameras were operational, as stated by the State Patrol. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting an investigation, and video footage of the incident will be released after it has been reviewed by the family of the deceased.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office confirmed issuing an alert to Minnesota law enforcement for the apprehension of Ricky Cobb. The alert mentioned that Cobb was wanted for a felony violation of an order for protection. Police had been searching for him since the previous Wednesday when they received a complaint about the alleged order violation at an apartment building in Vadnais Heights.

The family will release Ricky Cobb’s obituary and funeral arrangements at a later date.
