Rick Whaley Death – Flora-Bama Lounge & Package is mourning a longtime entertainer and songwriter who passed away suddenly. Mays Landing, New Jersey-born musician, and singer Rick Whaley died Friday morning following a battle with a medical condition. According to Rick Whaley’s wife Sherri Whalen, the Pensacola, FL charismatic singer was pronounced dead early this morning days after being hospitalized.
Following the tragic news, Sherri Whalen wrote; “My sweet Rick went to see his dad, mom, sister and brother in Heaven this morning. I can only imagine the sweet greeting he received and the beautiful sounds of the angels singing. I’m going to miss him terribly. He was the love of my life and I was so blessed to have him. We will hold a wonderful Celebration of his Life at a future date. I’ll post the details at another time.”
Rick Whaley was an alumnus of Oakcrest High School. In a tribute to the talented artist, Flora-Bama Lounge wrote; “The Main Room will never be quite the same without the captivating smile and awe-inspiring, melodic charisma of Rick Whaley. After sailing into the Flora-Bama by a seemingly happenstance occurrence, it’s overtly apparent that only fate could deliver such a profound gift to our doorstep. For nearly forty years we’ve had the priceless blessing of witnessing an unparalleled talent mesmerize audiences with a thunderous voice and spectacular instrumentation.”
“From Southwind to the Perdido Brothers, his brilliant musicianship on display can only be defined as legendary. Rick’s prowess as an entertainer will only be overshadowed by his infectious persona and the immensely generous spirit that defines his legacy. Our prayers and most sincere condolences are extended to the love of his life, Sherri Whalen. Though Rick may no longer physically command the stage, the majesty that he embodied will resonate in our hearts for eternity. Godspeed to a true gentleman and musical genius. Thanks to the amazing Shelley Patterson for capturing Rick so elegantly over the years.”
