Monee Ponds Stabbing – Following an incident in Moonee Ponds this afternoon that left many people injured, the police have taken a man into custody. At around 1:15 p.m., reports were made to the emergency number Triple Zero (000) regarding an irate man who looked to have assaulted persons on the street. This prompted the dispatch of officers to the area in the vicinity of Puckle Street.
Near the train station, the man, aged 36, was apprehended by the local police and detectives almost immediately after they were called about the situation. The suspect was equipped with a sharp instrument. It is reported that the four victims, two males and two ladies ranging in age from the 30s to the 80s, have been transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening.
The individual is presently being held in jail by the police as he provides assistance with their investigations. At this point, it appears that the event was random in nature and was not tied to any terrorist activity. Moonee Valley CIU is conducting an investigation into the events that led up to the incident and is asking for anybody who may have observed the event or who may possess dashcam footage to come forward.
