Police Investigate Overnight Armed Robbery Spree; 2 Suspects in Custody

CRYPTO — During a string of armed robberies that occurred on Thursday night and continued into Friday morning, six people were held at gunpoint; however, the police have not yet been able to correlate all five of the robberies. According to a report by Tara Molina of CBS 2, one of the five robberies was caught on camera, and two people have been detained in connection with the incident.
At 11:35 p.m., the first robbery took place in the 2100 block of West Grace Street in North Centre. The woman, who was 63 years old, was reportedly walking down the street when a sedan pulled up next to her and two masked robbers with firearms demanded her belongings, according to the police. The woman complied, and as a result, she did not sustain any injuries.
A white automobile drew up next to a 42-year-old man who was standing on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of North Leavitt Street in Roscoe Village at 11:41 p.m. and two armed robbers demanded his goods. One of the thieves was armed with a weapon. He also complied, and he did not sustain any injuries.
A white car approached a man and a woman who were standing on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of West Roscoe Street in Roscoe Village at 11:53 p.m. during the incident. The guy was 43 years old, and the lady was 32 years old. This time, one of the robbers made their getaway carrying a revolver, while the other used a rifle. They made demands regarding the victims’ possessions.
A man of 61 years of age was robbed while walking on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of West Berteau Avenue, which is also located in the North Centre neighbourhood, two minutes after the previous incident. According to the police, a white vehicle drew up once again, and two masked robbers brandishing weapons demanded his personal belongings. The victim complied, thus they did not end up getting hurt.
The incident occurred in front of the Four Moon Tavern located at 1847 W. Roscoe St., and it was captured on surveillance footage. In its 25 years of existence, the Four Moon Tavern had never witnessed a crime of this nature, much less captured it on camera. This particular incident was the first time it had ever happened.
According to Matt Kozlowski, proprietor of the Four Moon Tavern, “it happened very quickly, and it was pretty scary.” On the video, the robbers can be seen getting out of the car and approaching the victim and witness while holding weapons drawn. Both the man and the woman attempted to flee back into the tavern, but when faced with firearms, they were forced to comply. “Frankly, it’s mostly scary for the two people who were involved,” Kozlowski said. “I’m not going to lie about that.” “Physically speaking, they’re in good shape. I have no doubt that they are quite unsettled even now.”
