Peter Elzinga Death – Peter Elzinga, executive director of the Progressive Conservative Party in Alberta passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. He was 79 years old at the time of his death. He was announced dead through a social media publication that read “We lost an absolute gem this week as Peter Elzinga has passed away. A true gentleman with the kindest heart I know. Our conversations were absolute gold. Rest easy, my friend.”
Who was Peter Elzinga?
Born on April 6, 1944, Peter Elzinga served as the executive director of the Progressive Conservative Party in Alberta, Canada. He also held positions as a cabinet minister in the Alberta Legislative Assembly and as a member of Parliament in the House of Commons. By profession, Elzinga is a farmer and rancher. In the 1974 federal election, he was chosen to represent Pembina, Alberta, as a Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament in the Canadian House of Commons.
He was the chair of the 1983 PC leadership convention in addition to serving as the PC Party of Canada’s president from 1983 to 1986. Elzinga left the House of Commons to participate in the provincial election of Alberta in 1986. After winning a seat in the Alberta Legislature as the Legislative Assembly representative for Sherwood Park, he became the Minister of Agriculture in Don Getty’s cabinet.
About Peter Elzinga
He was appointed Minister of Trade and Agriculture in 1989. After successfully supporting Ralph Klein in his 1992 run for the Alberta PC Party leadership, he was appointed Deputy Premier and Minister of Federal and Intergovernmental Affairs. In the 1993 provincial election, Elzinga chose not to run for reelection. That year, as well as the campaigns that followed in the province elections of 1997, 2001, and 2004, he served as chair of the PC Party’s electoral campaign.
Elzinga rejoined the private sector and worked for Premier Klein as chief of staff from 1998 to 2004. Mr. Peter Elzinga, ICD.D., became the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Atlas Biotechnologies Ltd. in 2018.
