Paul Theriault Death – Former Oshawa Generals Ice Hockey Coach Paul Theriault has sadly passed away. He died at the age of of 73 surrounded by his beloved family. He was dead by Ontario Hockey League through a post that reads “The #OHL is mourning the loss of Paul Theriault, a coaching veteran of 14 OHL seasons, who has passed away at the age of 73”. The circumstances surrounding the actual cause of Paul Theriault’s death has not been revealed.

Paul Theriault Career

Former ice hockey coach Paul Theriault is most known for his time spent working as an assistant coach with the Buffalo Sabres during the 1996–1997 National Hockey League season. Not only does he have a coaching career that spans into the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), but he also holds the distinction of being the coach who has been with the Oshawa Generals for the longest amount of time in the league’s history. In addition, Theriault spent time as the head coach of the Erie Otters and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

He was honored with the Matt Leyden Trophy, which is awarded annually to the OHL Coach of the Year, in the 1986–1987 season. Theriault made important contributions at the professional level in addition to his accomplishments in the OHL.

While he was working as an assistant coach with the Buffalo Sabres during the 1996–1997 National Hockey League season, Ted Nolan was honored with the coveted Jack Adams Award, which is given to the National Hockey League’s Coach of the Year. Not only did Theriault serve as the head coach of the Flint Spirits in the International Hockey League, but he also coached HC Asiago and HC Varese in the Italian Serie A. His coaching career also included spells in both of these leagues.

He was very dedicated and committed to whatever he does. He was a force to be reckoned with and was loved by all that crossed path with him. He was down to earth and was always very jovial. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
