U.S — An outdoor gathering on a street in west Philadelphia, which took place nearly exactly two days after a previous killing on the same block, resulted in the death of one man and the wounding of eight other persons, according to the police.
Officers were dispatched to the location just a little after 1:30 in the morning. On Saturday, there was a significant gathering of people outdoors as well as many people who were shot. Two victims were carried to Presbyterian Hospital by law enforcement officers in patrol vehicles, and two further victims were brought there by emergency personnel. Approximately one hour later, two more casualties arrived at the hospital.
At 5:40 in the morning, a male who was 19 years old and had gunshot wounds to his face “and throughout his body” was pronounced dead, according to the police. The eight other victims, seven of whom were female, were said to be in stable condition or to have just incurred graze wounds, according to the police.
The condition of a 47-year-old man who was shot in the back was reported as stable. A woman who was 21 years old and had been shot five times in both legs was classified in stable condition, along with two other ladies who were 20 and 21 years old and all had leg wounds. A girl of 17 years old was also injured in the leg, according to police statements made Saturday afternoon. Another woman in her 20s had a graze wound on her shoulder, while a girl in her 17s had one on her thigh. Both of these injuries were superficial.
According to the police, sixty spent cartridge casings from a wide variety of guns were discovered. The event was reported by some witnesses as a “shoot-out” at a block party or BBQ on the row house street, according to Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore, who spoke to The Philadelphia Inquirer about it. There were no immediate reports of any arrests being made, and the police stated that the motive was not immediately clear.
A man in his thirties was fatally shot at a residence on the same street just before 2 o’clock in the morning on Thursday. The police have stated that there have been arrests made in that case; however, they have not stated whether or not they believe there was any connection between the shootings.
