Omar Hyman and Cheryl Hyman Death — The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into a tragic incident that unfolded on Monday morning, August 14th, 2023, in Mandeville, Louisiana resulting in the deaths of a husband and wife in what appears to be a murder-suicide. The somber event occurred in the early hours, just before 7:20 a.m. Deputies from STPSO responded to a call regarding a shooting at a residence situated in the 1500 block of Cherry Ridge Court.

Upon arrival, the responding deputies gleaned crucial details about the sequence of events. A male had been shot inside his home, the consequence of a distressing domestic altercation with his wife. Following the altercation, the husband sought refuge at a nearby residence.

The neighbor, upon discovering the situation, promptly contacted 911 and attempted to provide aid to the injured man.  The woman, identified as the wife, was thought to still be within the confines of their residence. Tragically, despite swift medical intervention, the husband’s injuries proved fatal as he was transported to a local hospital. Responding to the urgent circumstances, members of the STPSO SWAT team were deployed.

Unable to establish contact with the wife, the team took the necessary action of entering the residence. Inside, they discovered the lifeless body of the female, a victim of an apparent gunshot wound. The individuals involved in this heartbreaking incident were identified by St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston as Omar Hyman, aged 44, and Cheryl Hyman, aged 41.

In the wake of such distressing events, the Coroner’s Office emphasizes the importance of seeking support and counseling for those grappling with emotional trauma or mental health challenges. They recommend reaching out to the 988 crisis helpline as a valuable resource for assistance, guidance, and emotional well-being.
