Nicolas Chamberland | Kelsey Ouellette Death – One year after a young lady was shot and died on a Saturday evening in a busy section of downtown Edmonton, police are disclosing new details about her life and the events that led up to her death. Kelsey Ouellette, 31, was gunned killed approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022 in the Oliver neighborhood of Jasper Avenue and 116 Street.
Officers conducted emergency first-aid until paramedics arrived after responding to many reports of gunfire, but Ouellette died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Nicolas (Nic) Chamberland, Ouellette’s 34-year-old boyfriend, died only five months before her death.
Investigators are now gathering additional facts about their life, particularly the eight months preceding her death. Chamberland was discovered dead at his home in the Carlton neighborhood of northwest Edmonton on Monday, June 6, 2022. Nicolas was also known as “Maverick” or “Mav” in some circles.
Buhler said the pair had lived together at his house in the Carlton neighborhood but had split soon before he died. Reports did not disclose how Chamberland died, but they did claim it was not suspicious. Following Ouellette’s death, police began re-examining her late boyfriend’s life, and Buhler stated that detectives think she died as a direct result of Chamberland’s criminal activities.

According to accounts, Chamberland was involved in drug trafficking. Sources said it was only in the last year that investigators realized Chamberland’s death and gang lifestyle were the catalysts for Ouellette’s killing. According to the Edmonton Police Service, officers think Ouellette’s involvement with organized crime/criminality was incidental and a result of her friendship with Chamberland.
Investigators are interested in speaking with any of Ouellette’s or Chamberland’s friends or acquaintances who may have had contact with them between June and November 2022, including those who are actively involved in gang activity. Those with information about what occurred are invited to contact homicide detectives for comfort if they are afraid to come forward. Whoever murdered Ouellette went to tremendous measures to avoid capture.
Around the time of the shooting, a white Toyota Highlander SUV alleged to be driven by the murder suspect(s) was sighted near the site.
