Nathan Hefner Death – Well-known North Carolina Musician Nathan Hefner of Hickory has sadly passed away. He died on Saturday 21st October 2023 after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was confirmed dead through a post made by Hickory Jazz Society that says “It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to an old friend.. Nathan Hefner died last pm. I understand he was playing a gig and he went into cardiac arrest”.
Nathan Hefner Career
During his high school years, he fostered his solo performing career and crossed paths with his future collaborators, paving the way for the establishment of one of the region’s leading swing and jazz ensembles. In 1992, along with three of his peers, Hefner co-founded Sentimental Journey, a group that quickly gained favor with the public and held numerous performances throughout ’92 and ’93. Their popularity expanded across the Southeast, culminating in a dream come true for Hefner in 1997 when Sentimental Journey had the opportunity to open for his idol, the iconic Patti Page.
That pivotal year also saw the trio taking part in the inauguration of Harrah’s casino in Cherokee, NC, headlining with a three-night performance. The following year, Sentimental Journey had the honor of kick-starting the prestigious Jacksonville Jazz Festival, one of the largest events of its kind in the United States.

Hefner’s individual career in music persisted, marked by numerous notable performances alongside renowned acts such as The Smothers Brothers, The Lettermen, The Four Aces, The Orioles, Steve Allen, The Lennon Sisters, and Concord Jazz recording artist Dennis Rowland. Notably, he headlined at the Grand Hyatt Ballroom in NYC during a prominent week. In 1998, Hefner joined forces with Atlanta’s esteemed vocal personality, Lenny Stabile, in what turned out to be one of his most triumphant endeavors.
The collaboration between the two, with an age gap of 35 years (Stabile, 60, and Hefner, 25), gave rise to the highly-acclaimed “Two Of A Kind” act, centered around the timeless composition penned by music legends Johnny Mercer and Bobby Darin. Their performances captivated audiences across various locations, establishing the duo as an instant hit.
