Major Mike Sadler Death – Mike Sadler has passed away suddenly. He was confirmed dead on Thursday, January 4, 2023. He died leaving many hearts scarred after learning of his sudden death. He will always be missed by all those who had the pleasure of meeting him during the course of his life.

On Thursday, January 4, 2024, in the early hours of the morning, he passed away at the age of 103. The Rhodesian Forces received Mike’s enlistment in September of 1939. He served as a Gunner in Kenya, Italian Somaliland, Abyssinia, Messa, Matruh, and Halfya Pass respectively during his active duty. After transferring to the LRDG in September 1941, he made his way up to the rank of top-class navigator. Subsequently, he moved on to the SAS, where he became David Stirling’s navigator.

It was well known that Mike was the only veteran of the original L Detachment Special Air Service unit among those who were still alive. Willis Michael Sadler, also known as Mike, has reached the age of 103. The renowned navigator who served in the desert as an NCO eventually rose through the ranks to become the captain and intelligence officer of the 1st Special Air Service. He also served as the right hand of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Blair (Paddy) Mayne.

Following his participation in a parachute training course, he returned to the Regiment to undergo rigorous pre-D-Day training in England. At the beginning of August 1944, he was a member of the 1st Special Air Service (SAS) and was under the leadership of Paddy Mayne when he parachuted into the Morvan, which was located in Central France.

Western Desert, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany were among the places he served in the military. He received the Medal of Merit in 1942 and the Medal of Honor in 1945. After the war, he went to the Antarctic with Paddy Mayne and John Tonkin, both of whom were members of the First Special Air Service, on a research mission that lasted for thirteen months.
