In relation to the tragic collision that occurred on Tuesday, December 12, 23 at Main Street and Miramonte Boulevard, close to Broomfield High School, the Broomfield Police Department has made one arrest. Jose Menjivar, 37, was taken into custody this afternoon after being released from a nearby hospital. He was charged with vehicular homicide with recklessness, vehicular homicide with DUI, and habitual traffic offender.
Driving the 2000 Toyota Tundra that collided with the victim’s 2016 Mazda CX-5 was him. Tragically, Melissa Powell, 47, and her son Riordan, 16, perished. Although the cause is still being investigated, alcohol and speed are thought to have had a role. The Colorado Bureau of Investigations is currently verifying the official toxicological report, which the BPD is awaiting.
