Troopers from the NHSP TroopB Barracks in Bedford got multiple calls at 9:15 p.m. on October 13, 2022, about a silver car going the wrong way on Interstate 93 in Londonderry. According to the first accounts, a car got on the highway the wrong way from Exit 5, going north in the southbound lane. As troopers were making their way to the scene, they got more calls saying that several cars had been forced off the road near mile marker 17. Paulo Santos Moreira of Medford, Massachusetts, was driving one of the cars that was pulled off the road.
Santos Moreira didn’t get hurt when he hit the guardrail while trying to avoid a head-on collision with a car going the wrong way. The wrong-way car kept going north in the southbound lane until it had to stop in the left lane near mile marker 18.8 because it was no longer able to move. Troopers found the car quickly and took the driver into custody.
The driver was a 54-year-old man from New Hampshire named Douglas Lippert. Lippert was taken to the Elliott Hospital after a crash left him with minor injuries.
