Mark Williams NWH Group C.E.O. and Finlay Street died in car accident on the A7 in the Scottish Borders

Mark Williams Death – A father of three chidren (fiurth due in April 2024) has been identified as one of the victims who passed away in deadly car crash over the weekend. 45-year-old Mark Williams was the Chief Executive Officer at The NWH Group (a natiowide known firm prestigeously known as one of the UK’s leading recycling and waste management businesses). The Edinburgh man was a graduate of Gracemount High School and a longtime resident of Heriot, Midlothian.

The second victim who died in the accident was identified as a hardworking and athletic man. Finlay Street was a former Hawick Linden RFC player. Following his death, the club wrote: “The club is in complete shock at hearing the devastating news of the tragic death of Finlay Street in a road traffic accident on Sunday at the much too young age of just 23. Finlay made his debut at Selkirk in a pre-season friendly on 20 August 2021 and went on to make 14 appearances that season. He made six more in 2022/23 for a total of 20, scoring his only try at Penicuik in November 2022, diving over following a tap penalty. He last played for the club in January in the narrow 18-19 defeat to Corstorphine at the Volunteer Park. All at the club pass on their heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends at this terrible time. Rest easy Finlay.”

The deadly crash happened on the A7 in the Scottish Borders at approximately12:40 on Sunday. Law enforcement agencies were called to the scene of a two vehicle crash. According to reports, two children ages of 15 and 9 were travelling in the vehicle driven by Williams at the time of the accident. The children were rushed to the hospotal.

According to Police Scotland Scottish Borders, police were called to reports of a crash involving two vehicles, a black Audi A3 and a black Range Rover around 12.40pm on Sunday, 29 October. Emergency services attended and the driver of the Audi, a 23-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Range Rover, a 45-year-old man, and the two child passengers, a 15-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy, were taken to hospital for treatment.

The man died in hospital on Tuesday, 31 October. The men can now be named as 23-year-old Finlay Street from Hawick and 45-year-old Mark Williams of Heriot. If you can help please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1884 of Sunday 29 October, 2023.

Inspector Ross Drummond said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Finlay and Mark at what is a very difficult time for them. “We are continuing our enquiries to establish the full circumstances. Anyone who was in the area round the time of the crash, or anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist, is asked to get in touch.”
