What was Mark Savage’s cause of death?
The Georgia State Patrol is confirming that a 63-year-old Watkinsville man perished in Friday’s motor vehicle accident on state route 17/75 in Hiawassee.
Mark Savage was driving south toward White County before 1 pm when a Mack truck going north toward Hiawassee crossed over into his lane striking his GMC Sierra and then, moments later, striking a Ford F-150 which was behind the Sierra. The GSP says Savage died at the scene. There were three others in Savage’s Sierra – including a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy – who were flown to CHOA Scottish Rite.
Newton Wilcox, 77 of Hiawassee, was driving the F-150 and was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Towns County coroner Tamela Cooper says he is expected to recover. The GSP indicates the driver of the Mack truck was at fault and it is thought there was a mechanical failure with his truck. It was driven by Charles Farmer, 68, of Cleveland, Georgia. His truck overturned down an embankment. Nothing more is known of his injuries at the present.
The road was reopened Friday night before 8:30 pm.
