Levi Mohney Death – Levi J. Mohney, a resident of Buffalo Township in Butler County, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. at his home. He was 46 years old at the time of his death. He was announced dead on Thursday, June 8th, 2023, through a social media statement that read “Prayers to you my dear friend Heather Flaherty and his family and everyone who loved him. Levi will be missed.” The cause of his death was not stated.
Who was Levi Mohney?
Levi J. Mohney was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania on May 28, 1977, a son of Tim R. and Mary M. (McAninch) Mohney, of Mars, Pennsylvania. Levi graduated from Freeport Area High School in 1995. Levi had skill on the ice for hockey. He spent a lot of time traveling with his family to hockey matches and competitions in the US and Canada. Levi had an injury during a hockey match on May 21, 1995, not far from Toledo, Ohio. Since that horrible day, Levi has remained quadriplegic due to a catastrophic spinal cord injury.
Levi started coaching hockey despite his disabilities because he was passionate about the sport. He served as the head coach for Slippery Rock University, Pittsburgh Vipers, and Freeport Hockey. In Buffalo Twp, Levi belonged to the White Star Club. He greatly adored the music of the Grateful Dead. He cherished spending time with his friends and family and attending music festivals. His two sisters Brandy S. and Charlie VanDyke, Jr., Misty M. Mohney, and his brothers Noah P. and Joanna Mohney all adored Levi as a brother. Heather Flaherty, his companion, loved him dearly. Levi’s companion Heather’s children referred to him as “Pappy Levi” as well.
He was a big, kind, funny, and wise man who was beautiful on the inside and out. Levi had the most beautiful smile and a kind heart, and his personality was so lively that it lit up, and he told people to stop being judgmental and start being kind and loving. Unconditional love was his trademark. Levi was a real blessing. He will forever be remembered for his hard work ethic, for being an amazing mentor and the best coach in the entire universe,

Trips Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 9th from 5 to 8 pm in the Redmond Funeral Home Inc. 524 High St. in Freeport, Pennsylvania. At the family’s request, a private service will be conducted following the public visitation on Friday evening.
