Laura Colon killed, Jason Norris died by suicide in Mentor trailer park shooting

Laura Colon Death – Four people died including a suspect and one injured in a deadly shooting that happened at the Mentor Green Mobile Estates in Mentor around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The victims were identified as Laura Colon, 62, Terrance Mathis Sr., 63, Thomas Galizia, 81, Charles Skala, 63, and Jason Norris, 47.

According to reports, Laura, Terrance, and Thomas passed away from injuries sustained in the shooting. While Jason Norris who was identified as the suspect died by suicide from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Charles remained hospitalized Friday in stable condition.

How did the shooting happen?

According to reports, police were summoned to a park following a 911 call reporting shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of property manager Laura Colon, 62, on a roadway. Terrance Mathis Sr., 63, another resident with a stomach wound, was found nearby. Officers promptly carried him to safety, but he passed away from his injuries at the hospital shortly thereafter.

Subsequently, the body of another resident, Thomas Galizia, 81, was found at the scene. Charles Skala, 63, was found in his residence with gunshot wounds to the shoulder and right thigh. As of Friday, he remained in stable condition in the hospital.

While attending to the victims, the alleged shooter, Jason Norris, 47, opened fire on the officers. Despite taking cover, the officers refrained from returning fire. Witnesses reported an altercation between Norris and Colon before he wielded two handguns, firing at her. The other three victims were reportedly shot when they rushed to assist Colon.

Following the incident, Norris retreated into his home, prompting the deployment of a police hostage negotiation team, which was unsuccessful in making contact with him. Around 8:15 p.m., a tactical drone entered his unit, revealing that Norris had taken his own life. Although several park residents were evacuated during the shooting, they were permitted to return to their homes early Friday.

Obituary and Funeral arrangements for Laura Colon have not been made by the family.
