Lancelin Fire: Evacuation notice, fast growing blaze, smoke in Lancelin townsite today

Lancelin Fire Investigations: Authorities in Lancelin, Austialia is urging residents in the Lanceling neighbourhood to evacuate following a growing bush fire Wednesday afternoon. “bushfire EMERGENCY WARNING is current for people in the Lancelin townsite and on Lancelin Road west of Old Ledge Point Road in the western part of LANCELIN in the SHIRE OF GINGIN.”

  • People in the Lancelin townsite need to leave now toward the Lancelin Jetty if safe to do so. Lancelin Road is closed.
    You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes.
  • Homes in Lancelin townsite are under threat by fire now.
  • It is burning north west toward Lancelin townsite.

WHAT TO DO: If the way is clear, leave now toward the Lancelin Jetty. Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger. Close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible. If you cannot leave, you need to get ready to shelter in your home.

Go to a room in your home away from the fire front and make sure you can easily escape. Choose a room with two exits and water such as a kitchen or laundry. If you are not at home, it’s too dangerous to return.

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: The bushfire is moving in a north westerly direction. It is out of control and unpredictable.

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: Firefighters are on the scene, actively fighting the fire.

ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS:  Please void the area and be aware of fire and emergency services personnel working on site. Lancelin Road is closed. Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.

 DRONES AND AERIAL SUPPORT:

Never fly a drone, model aircraft or multirotor near bushfires. Doing so poses a major safety risk to firefighting personnel in the air and on the ground, and forces aircraft to be grounded or redirected, hindering firefighting efforts.

police have blocked the road into Lancelin you to a fire that has broken out on Lancelin Road.  Emergency vehicles are on the scene but at present, the road is not passable.
