Kayla Atwood Death: The remains of a missing Pensacola, Florida mother of four have been located. Kayla Atwood was located dead in a deserted area by the officials from the Escambia County Sheriff’s on Thursday night. According to reports, Kayla was located beaten to death. Her ex-boyfriend 34-year-old Mikhail Fountain has been charged with her murder.
Kayla died following injuries sustained from Mikhail’s battery. Her lifeless body was located at a location near N Crow Road in Escambia County. Mikhail Fountain was initially accused of destroying evidence in connection with Atwood’s disappearance three days ago. Then, at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, he was released from jail on a $50,000 surety.
According to jail records, Fountain was re-arrested at 2:10 a.m. on Friday on the following charges: Homicide and resisting arrest. He is currently held without bond in the Escambia County Jail. The charges of homicide and battery were initiated by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, whereas Pensacola Police initiated the claim of resisting arrest.
On January 3, Kayla was reported missing. That day, she dropped her children at daycare without returning to retrieve them. According to investigators, she was observed entering a yellow Penske moving van after their departure from the school.
According to multiple reports, Kayla returned home that afternoon after being dropped off by the Penske truck. Minutes later, she was captured on video entering a pickup truck that matched the description of one owned by Fountain. A brief time later, her phone was disconnected and it has not been connected since.
Tuesday’s arrest report for Fountain stated that he informed officers that he and Atwood had recently ended their relationship. As per the report, the allegation of evidence destruction arises from his actions of removing surveillance footage that revealed the whereabouts of Atwood on January 3, erasing text messages exchanged with Atwood on the same day, and providing false statements to law enforcement.
Concerning the investigation, Fountain exhibited “abnormal behavior,” according to the police. The report states that Fountain denies seeing Atwood on the day of her disappearance. Additionally, the report mentioned that the individual operating the Penske vehicle has been exonerated in the investigation. Thursday morning, crime scene investigators were observed searching a property at Fountain’s residence on N G Street.
