The police confirmed that Mr. Fineanganofo opened the ambulance’s rear doors with a wrench and stabbed the paramedic multiple times. Mr. Tougher was in severe condition and taken to Liverpool Hospital, but he sadly passed away. At the crime scene, police tasered Mr. Fineanganofo and took him into custody for the paramedic’s murder. His attorney, Javid Faiz, had told the press that his client was being evaluated for mental health problems.
He informed Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday that he would not be requesting his client’s release from jail. The 21-year-old has been in police custody for over 10 weeks, and according to the court’s ruling, he will remain in detention for another 2 weeks. It was revealed in court that the police had filed an emergency motion seeking permission to perform a forensic operation on the Raby resident in order to secure potential evidence.
Due to the time-sensitive nature of the alleged forensic evidence, the police prosecutor has also filed a motion for a temporary restraining order. Both applications for forensic procedure were postponed by Magistrate Peter Thompson for two weeks. On July 12, Mr. Fineanganofo will be back in court. More than a month after the birth of their daughter, Madison and Mr. Tougher’s widow appeared in court to face charges. When her husband was tragically killed, she was just weeks away from giving birth to the couple’s second child.
Family and friends of Mr. Tougher have spoken fondly of his sensitivity, generosity, and compassion. It was as a nurse and then as a paramedic that Steven’s family said he “shone brightest” in his commitment to assisting others. Condolences are been sent to the family members of the paramedic, Steven Tougher.
