John Dant from Louisville Kentucky died after short illness, family mourn his death

His body ultimately gave out after a long and heroic battle, and he passed away while surrounded by the comfort of those who loved him. In the year 1961, John was the first boy to be born in the city of Louisville, Kentucky. The first of the year was his birthday. John was the twelfth child born to Faye Gross Dant and John “Jack” Dant Jr., who together had a total of twelve children. John was the only male child in a family of eight that was composed entirely of females. Because of this, all eyes were on him and celebrations were held in his honor. John spent his childhood years learning his religion at St. Agnes Catholic School.

As a result of his family’s constant relocations, he got his high school education from a number of institutions, including St. Xavier, Pikeville High School, and Atherton High School, from which he ultimately graduated. John did not attend college, much to his wife’s dismay; however, he was a fervent supporter of the athletic programs at the University of Kentucky.

John had a deep dedication to his work from the very beginning of his career, when he worked as a bag boy in a grocery shop. At the early age of 26, he owned The Back Door, a Louisville Highlands bar that is located close to the well-known Mid City Mall. Prior to that, he gained experience working in retail and management. Over the period of 36 years, John took The Back Door, a quaint local watering hole, and transformed it into a full-service bar and restaurant famous for its wings and “satisfying” beverages.

John’s network of friends and contacts was too extensive to list here. It’s amazing to see how much love and admiration John’s friends and neighbors have offered him over the years. There are going to be a great number of individuals that miss him. According to the proverb, John embodied the concept of the “perfect person.”

On Tuesday, October 24, visitation will take place from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Highlands Funeral Home located at 3331 Taylorsville Road in the 40205 zip code of Louisville, Kentucky. Catholic services will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 25 at 10:00 AM. The church is located at 1920 Newburg Road in the 40205 zip code. The final resting place of the body will be at Resthaven Cemetery, which can be found at 4400 Bardstown Road in 40218.
