He was a native of Bessemer, Alabama but he lived in Alabaster, Alabama until his time of death.

For a number of years, he has served as the voice of the Thompson Warriors football club. He had a passion for sports and radio. It was a couple of years ago that he made his debut on ESPN talking about the miraculous conclusion to the Thompson state championship comeback.
