James Macaulay Death – James “Jim” Clement MacAula, a resident of Saint Peters Bay, Prince Edward Island, and Past President of Prince Edward Island Provincial Command passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Souris Hospital just two days shy of his 83rd birthday. He was announced dead on Sunday, July 23rd, 2023, through a social media that read “Comrades & Friends, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our long-time members of Branch #26.”
Who was James Macaulay?
James Clement MacAulay, hailing from St. Peters Bay, was honored in 2017 with the Order of Prince Edward Island, alongside esteemed figures such as the former Premier of P.E.I., Catherine Callbeck of Central Bedeque, and Catherine Hennessey of Charlottetown, a renowned historian, author, and heritage activist. Among 53 Islander nominees, these three stood out for their outstanding contributions.
James, a former teacher, and principal at Morell Regional High School, played a vital role in community revitalization projects, including the transformation of St. Peter’s Consolidated School into the St. Peters Bay Complex. A Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Past President of Prince Edward Island Provincial Command, James exemplified ‘service before self,’ deeply loved and cherished by his wife, Loretta.
About James MacAulay
Jim retired from the Eastern School District Board Office after serving as Morell Regional High School’s principal for most of his career. He was a lifelong learner and a proud member of the 1962 class of St. Dunstan’s University. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a Bachelor of Education in 1967 and a Master of School Administration in 1978. 2014 saw Jim receive an honorary doctor of law degree from UPEI.
He was very active in his neighborhood and was recognized with several medals and prizes for his voluntary efforts. Jim attended St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church with devotion and loyalty. Jim was the late Archibald and Bernadette (MacDonald) MacAulay’s son and was born on July 23, 1940, in Midgell, Prince Edward Island. He was a devoted father to Mary Catherine Compton, Andrew “Andy” MacAulay, Ronnie MacAulay, and Marion Sperdakes.

Resting at the Dr. Roddie Community Centre, 5549 St. Peter’s Road, St. Peter’s Bay on Wednesday, July 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saint Peter’s Bay Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, July 27 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to St. Peter’s Parish.
