Ismenia Urena Death | Sotirios Spanos Arrested – After an early morning incident on Saturday in Laurel Hollow that resulted in the deaths of two persons, a man from Syosset was detained and charged with driving while drunk as well as aggravated vehicular murder, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
According to the police, Sotirios Spanos, 32, of Holly Lane was driving eastbound on Northern Boulevard near Moores Hill Road in a 2023 Acura MDX when he ran over the yellow border and collided with a 2013 Ferrari convertible that was headed westbound.
The female Ferrari passenger, who was 37 years old, was pronounced deceased at the scene by a medic from the Nassau County police department, according to the authorities. According to the police, the male driver, who was 37 years old, was taken to a hospital where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel at the hospital.
They were identified on social media as Ismenia Urena and Odalys. According to the authorities, the collision took place about 12:30 in the morning.
The ensuing investigation found that Spanos, who remained at the scene, was intoxicated at the time of the collision, and he was brought under custody without any incident, according to the police. Spanos remained at the scene.
It was decided not to release the names of the victims until their families had been notified. According to the police, Spanos was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, two charges of manslaughter in the second degree, two counts of assault in the second degree, driving while inebriated, and reckless driving. He was also charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.
On Sunday, he will appear in First District Court in Hempstead for his arraignment. The accident investigation caused a part of Route 25A in Laurel Hollow to be closed for a short period of time; however, it was reopened at approximately 10 a.m., according to the police.
