Greg Lotysz Death – UND All-American is mourning the death of a former Offensive Lineman who passed away tragically Friday. Greg Lotysz died from multiple health complications, the family says. Lotysz was a participant in the athletic programme at the University of North Dakota (UND) during the period spanning from 1995 to 1998. Notably, Lotysz achieved the distinction of receiving All-America recognition in the year 1998.

The individual in question was chosen as the third overall pick in the Canadian Football League Draught; however, he made the decision to forgo this opportunity and instead signed a contract as a free agent with the New York Jets. As a rookie, he successfully secured a position on the practice squad of the Jets.

During his sophomore year, he had a significant injury to his left knee during pre-season training. The patient’s football career was terminated due to two postsurgical infections that arose as a result of complications from knee surgery. Based on the information available on a recent Caring Bridge website entry for Lotysz, it can be inferred that he sought medical attention at the emergency room on July 29th, and subsequently, on the following day, he was admitted to the critical care unit.

Based on the information provided, it was found that Lotysz was diagnosed with pneumonia, a urinary tract infection, a blood clot in his thigh, as well as experiencing impaired kidney and liver function, along with weakened heart and lung conditions. Chris Kuper, a former offensive lineman for the University of North Dakota (UND) and a player in the National Football League (NFL) for the Denver Broncos, currently serving as the offensive line coach for the Minnesota Vikings, travelled to Grand Forks at the beginning of this month to visit Lotysz.

Although Kuper played at UND after Lotysz’s tenure, he attributed his development to Lotysz. At the time of Kuper’s selection by the Broncos in 2006, he happened to be present at Lotysz’s residence located in Grand Forks. During his tenure with the programme, Lotysz’s performance as a left tackle significantly contributed to the Fighting Sioux’s impressive record of 32-10 overall and a 28-8 record in North Central Conference matches.

Additionally, he had the distinction of being a member of the 1995 NCC title team during his freshman year, and he successfully led UND to two tournament berths. Lotysz experienced a significant breakthrough in his final year on the offensive line in 1998, leading to his recognition as a Second Team All-American by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette.

In 1998, he achieved the distinction of being selected as a First Team All-North Central offensive lineman. This recognition was bestowed upon him following his contribution to the Sioux’s commendable performance, resulting in an 8-3 overall record and a conference standing of 7-2. Lotysz served as a graduate assistant at the University of North Dakota (UND) during the 2001 and 2002 seasons, during which time he contributed to the coaching staff of the NCAA Division II national championship team.

Subsequently, he assumed a coaching position for several years, serving as a volunteer on Chris Mussman’s teams throughout the period spanning from the mid-to-late 2000s. Greg is survived by his spouse, Heather, as well as their three offspring, namely Lawson, Peyton, and Olivia.

Peyton, during the preceding three seasons, participated in the UND football programme and held the position of starting left guard for the squad at the inaugural match of the 2022 season against the University of Nebraska.
