Grants Pass Shooting Investigations – Authorities say the suspect in the Nov. 21 burglary turned homicide shooting passed away in officer-involved near Albertsons Friday. A large number of law enforcement officers are on the scene of a shooting near Redwood Highway and Allen Creek Road in Grants Pass. The shooting was reported around 12:20 p.m., and it has caused a traffic slowdown in the area, with ODOT stopping traffic at Dowell Road. At 12:36 p.m., an officer asked for a “body screen.”
Grants Pass Police Department released the following statement following the incident: PLEASE AVOID HWY 199 FROM DOWELL RD TO REDWOOD AVE The Redwood Highway has been closed for a police investigation into a multi-agency officer-involved shooting. Following a short pursuit, Kelly Lynn Mason fired at officers who returned fire. Grants Pass police are looking for a man wanted in connection with a Nov. 21 burglary turned homicide at an apartment on the Rogue River Highway. Kelly Lynn Mason, 48, is considered armed and extremely dangerous by authorities. Mason is described as a Caucasian man who is around 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs about 200 pounds, has a bald head, brown eyes, and multiple tattoos.
Mason was last seen driving a white Honda Accord with the license plate 378PCG from Oregon. Police advise you to avoid contacting the suspect and to contact your local law enforcement agency right away. According to the Grants Pass Police Department, it responded to gunshot complaints inside an apartment on the 1400 block of Rogue River Highway on Nov. 21 at 7:45 p.m. When authorities arrived, one victim had been shot and another had been brutally beaten.
Katherine Crago, the gunshot victim, died at the scene from her injuries. The male victim was sent to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries. According to police, the Major Crimes Unit’s investigation over the last three weeks indicated that the victims had been targeted for the heist.
In this case, three individuals have already been apprehended. Sasha Marie Moe was arrested on November 22nd, Rick Eric Braton Lester on December 4th, and Michael Fay Woodruff on December 11th. All three suspects have been booked into the Josephine County Jail on 2nd-degree murder, robbery, burglary, aggravated unauthorized use of a weapon, and assault charges.
