After visiting with grieving relatives the day before, Governor Gavin Newsom spent Wednesday in Half Moon Bay, where two gunshots claimed the lives of seven individuals. The alleged shooter at the plant nurseries 30 miles south of San Francisco is in custody and will be arraigned on Wednesday. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reported that five persons were injured and four were found dead at the suspect’s place of employment, the Mountain Mushroom Farm.

A short time later, three more bodies were discovered at a second place, a farm where the suspect had previously worked. Some of the deceased were immigrants, and the county coroner’s office was making efforts to identify them and contact their families. On Tuesday, Sheriff Christina Corpus confirmed that five men and two women had been killed. She also said that a hospitalized survivor was in stable condition.

Newsom voiced his displeasure at having to travel so quickly from one city hit by a horrific shooting to another, and he called for stricter gun legislation. “Only in America do we see this kind of carnage, this kind of chaos, the destruction of communities and lives,” Newsom added.

Rep. Anna Eshoo, a Democrat, previously expressed her raw emotions by saying the farmworkers were “killed with purpose, with intent execution style, and this state and country are reeling from it.” Corpus did not comment directly on Eshoo’s remarks after the briefing, citing the ongoing investigation into Chunli Zhao, 66. However, he did say that more people need to be aware of the importance of mental health.

Unfortunately, innocent lives were lost because “it appears this person snapped and took measures into his own hands,” Corpus said. People’s loved ones were taken from them. The time has come for this to end.On Twitter, the FBI announced that it was assisting local authorities. Clearly there was a “instance of workplace violence,” as Corpus stated on Tuesday. “This tragedy has broken our hearts, and we are committed to working with the community to help it recover.”

The White House announced on Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris will visit her home state of California on Wednesday in the aftermath of the two massacres, as the Biden administration moves forward with preparations for legislation to ban assault rifles. Harris is planning to visit Monterey Park, California, where 11 people were slain on Saturday at a dance studio.

Newsom spoke passionately for stricter federal gun laws and promised that California will remain a national leader in progressive reform. He blasted Republicans for their opposition to gun reform, specifically naming California Republican and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy as an example. Not even a single word has come from him. Not a word about what happened here or at Monterey Park,” Newsom declared.

Newsom claimed that Republican lawmakers had thwarted efforts to improve gun safety and that judges had struck down laws that states, including California, had approved. Ray Mueller, a member of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, told USA TODAY that county officials had made an effort to provide counseling for bereaved citizens. He stated that after three weeks of storms and water, the diversified agricultural community was already in crisis.

Amid “shock and sadness,” Mueller lauded the community’s outpouring of sympathy for the victims’ relatives at the reunification center on Monday. “People came late into the night, bringing blankets, supplies, and food,” he claimed. People are pulling together to support you. The next step will be to collect funds to compensate these households for their lost income. According to booking records, Zhao was arrested on seven charges of murder and one count of attempted murder.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe has announced that the suspect would be arraigned on Wednesday. On Monday, about 2:30 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office got the first reports of a shooting. Vice Mayor of Half Moon Bay Joaquin Jimenez reported that Chinese and Latino farmworkers were among the dead.

Corpus added that some workers at one facility resided on the premises, and it’s possible that children in the area saw the shooting. According to her, the link between the two places wasn’t obvious at first glance. On Tuesday, Corpus announced that five males and two women had perished. The coroner’s office, she added, is still working to identify the fatalities and contact their next of kin, a procedure that creates “unique challenges” due to the fact that some of the victims are members of the migrant community.

According to Corpus, the hospitalized person was doing well. She claimed the only thing linking the suspect to the victims is that they may have worked together. More than two hours after deputies arrived at the first gunshot scene, Zhao, 66, a resident of Half Moon Bay, was detained without incident at his car in the parking area of the Half Moon Bay Police Substation, Corpus said. Corpus indicates that he had a semiautomatic firearm in his car. On Tuesday, she claimed that she had acquired the firearm lawfully.

Authorities think Zhao works at one of the facilities, and they believe the victims were also employees there. Corpus stated that it was possible that children of workers who lived on the property witnessed the incident. It wasn’t obvious how the new buildings related to one another. The motive for the shooting is unknown, Corpus said, however county board of supervisors president Dave Pine called the suspect a “disgruntled worker.”

Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill issued a statement saying they were praying for the victims. “For the second time in recent days, California communities are mourning the loss of loved ones in a senseless act of gun violence,” the statement read. Biden stated that he had spoken with his Homeland Security team and ordered the federal government to give the city of Half Moon Bay and its surrounding communities their full support “in the wake of this heinous attack.”

Vice President Biden has been actively lobbying for his latest gun control package, which includes a federal assault weapons prohibition and legislation to raise the minimum purchasing age for assault weapons to 21.”Even as we await further details on these shootings, we know the scourge of gun violence across America requires stronger action,” the statement read. “I once again urge both chambers of Congress to act quickly and deliver this Assault Weapons Ban to my desk,” Trump said. “It is imperative that we take swift action to keep American communities, schools, workplaces, and homes safe.”
