Gerald Pagel Death – A 77-year-old Fremont man has died following a car/pedestrian accident that happened on Saturday, the 28th of October 2023. The victim has been identified as Gerald Pagel also known to many as “Jerry”. According to reports, Gerald Pagel of Fremont passed away from injuries sustained in the accident.

How did the crash happen?

The Waupaca County Communications Center received a notification on Sunday, October 29th, 2023, reporting an incident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Initial inquiries revealed that a pedestrian assisting another motorist was hit by a vehicle traveling on County Road W. Although the vehicle initially fled the scene, it was discovered shortly afterward.

The driver was apprehended and taken into custody, with alcohol suspected to have played a role. Regrettably, the pedestrian, identified as Gerald L. Pagel, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Waupaca County Medical Examiner’s Office.

About Gerald Pagel

Jerry was born on September 14, 1946 in Neenah, WI. He was the son of the late Robert and Jacqueline(Behnke) Pagel. Jerry and Paula Palmer got married on May 4, 1968, in a wedding ceremony held at St. Margaret Mary Church in Neenah. For a considerable period, Jerry held the position of maintenance personnel at Rich’s Bakery in Appleton.

A dedicated and long-standing member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield, Jerry actively served as an elder, took part in Bible study sessions, and selflessly dedicated his time to numerous boards and committees. His interests extended to gardening, fishing, and attending live music events.

Jerry had a particular fondness for “collecting” various items, participating in raffles and charity events, engaging in conversations and sharing stories, and relishing his favorite local fish fry at Hunter’s in Readfield.

Jerry is survived by four children, Jeff Pagel, Appeton; Brad(Carolyn)Pagel, Hartford, WI; Robert(Lori) Pagel, Neenah and Andrea (Todd) Wudke, Fairborne, OH; eight grandchildren, Alisha, Morgan, Jay, Johnathon, Ashlyn, Paige, Kendra and Savannah; four great-grandchildren, Ronnie, Darius, Bronx and Maximillion; two brothers, Tom(Carol)Pagel, and Tim(Dianne)Pagel; 3 sisters, Debbie(Scott)Douville, Mary(Dave)VanGompel and Laurie Pagel; a sister-in-law, Nancy Palmer and a brother-in-law, Frank Haffner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Paula; a granddaughter, Brooke;his brother, Mark; his in-laws, James and Bernice Pamer; a brother-in-law, Charles Palmer, three sisters-in-law, Donna Owens, Karen Haffner and Bonnie Reed

Gerald Pagel obituary

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, N987 County Rd. H, Readfield. Pastor Peter Kesting will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, at the church from 9 AM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for Zion Lutheran Church and the Waupaca County Sheriff’s K9 Unit.
