Galen Henderson MD Boston MA Death – Galen Henderson MD, the Director of neurocritical care at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital has died. He was announced dead today, Thursday, the 28th of December 2023. Dr. Galen Henderson died last night following a recent illness. Thoughts and prayers are with those affected by his passing.

New England Donor Services released the following statement: “It is with a heavy heart that New England Donor Services shares the news that Galen V. Henderson, MD, died last night following a recent illness.”

About Galen Henderson MD

Galen Henderson, MD, FNCS, serves as the Director of Neurocritical Care in the Department of Neurology and holds the position of Chief Diversity and inclusion Officer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Originally from Mississippi, he graduated from Tougaloo College, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Jackson, and Brown Medical School.

Dr. Henderson completed his residency in the Harvard-Longwood Neurology Training Program and pursued a fellowship in Neurocritical Care at Brigham. Joining Brigham’s Neurology Department, he assumed the role of director of Neurocritical Care in 2001. Under his leadership, the neurocritical care service expanded from five to twenty beds, establishing itself as one of the busiest ICUs at Brigham.

In addition to his responsibilities at Brigham, Dr. Henderson is the founding deputy editor of Journal Watch Neurology, the editor of Reprints in Stroke, and serves as the associate medical director for two federally designated organ procurement organizations. He has received awards from three different secretaries of Health and Human Services for his contributions to the development of the Organ Donation National Collaborative.

As an assistant professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Henderson’s research concentrates on clinical trials related to stroke and cerebral hemorrhage treatments. He also shares his expertise through lectures at the Neurocritical Care Society and the American Academy of Neurology.

Actively engaged in academic leadership, Dr. Henderson is a member of the Board of Trustees of Brown University and a past president of the university’s Alumni Association. In recognition of his leadership and numerous contributions, he has been honored with a notable alumni service award from Brown University.
