Eugene Barber Death – Eugene Barber, a beloved husband, father and resident of Winchester has died. He passed away sadly on Saturday 1st July 2023 at the age of 84. He was confirmed dead through a Facebook post made on Sunday that says “Life on the ranch,101-This man will leave a big hole in the life’s of a great many people . Some one the smallest cattle producer could always count on, God bless the Blue Grass family”. The specific cause of Eugene Barber’s death has not been known at this time.
Who was Eugene Barber?
Gene Mac was the older of the two sons that Henry Eugene and Aetna Walton McRoberts Barber reared in Hillsboro, Kentucky. His parents were Aetna Walton McRoberts Barber. From their humble beginnings, the Barbers would eventually—through hard work and determination—forge a pathway for building not only one of the largest order-buying livestock businesses in the United States, the Eugene Barber and Sons Cattle Company, but also, later, the Lexington Bluegrass Stockyards as it is known today.
In the 1970s, members of the Barber family and Kenneth Holt formed a partnership in order to acquire Blue Grass Stockyards from the company’s original proprietors. Over the course of the subsequent years, Blue Grass Stockyards would expand into seven regional markets located across the entirety of Central Kentucky. Gene was able to establish himself as a leader in the field because to JoAnn’s assistance, and he served as President of the National Livestock Marketing Association in the year 1996.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter, Sandy. He is survived by his devoted wife, JoAnn, his three stepchildren, Joan, Bob and Patrick (Jamie) Buttram, his two granddaughters, Lauralee (Patrick) Estill and Molly Gene Crain, his two cherished great grandchildren, Francis and Mary Patrick Estill, his brother, Larry (Valerie)Barber, Larry’s children, Laura Sue, Lee Ann, Larry Gene, and Laramie, his cousins, Deanie and Eric, and numerous grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Eugene Barber Obituary
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 5th at the Blue Grass Stockyards and Regional Marketplace, 4561 Iron Works Pike, Lexington, KY 40511. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with a memorial service following at 1:00pm. Gene will be buried at the Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, KY, after a family-only graveside service.
