Elizabeth Gray Death – Elizabeth Gray, a Canadian radio broadcaster, who served as a host and documentary producer for CBC Radio has passed away. Veteran CBC journalist Elizabeth Gray was announced dead today, Wednesday, the 25th of October 2023. She died at age 86 from lung cancer.

Spanning numerous decades, Elizabeth Gray cultivated a distinguished journalism career, reporting from various global locations and engaging with diverse media formats. Her experiences encompassed stints in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, London, and Moscow, delivering stories for television, radio, newspapers, and magazines.

Primarily associated with CBC, Gray dedicated herself to a range of roles, both on-air and behind the scenes, contributing significantly to local and national TV and radio programs, including Morningside and Sunday Morning.

Her notable contributions to the public broadcaster garnered her three Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television, and Radio Artists (ACTRA) awards. She was married to journalist John Gray, and the couple was blessed with two children.

During her career, she served as a researcher on Cross-Country Checkup and as a substitute presenter on This Country in the Morning and Morningside. In 1981, she assumed the co-host position for As It Happens, succeeding Barbara Frum. However, in 1985, she was replaced by Dennis Trudeau following a controversial decision made by the show’s producers.

Subsequently, she anchored Sunday Morning for several years, concurrently producing documentary segments for the network. Although the show is now under different management, Gray has occasionally returned to As It Happens as a guest presenter.

Gray was tough. She was abrasive. Gray was kind. She was caring. Gray was a teacher, but there was no coddling. She was very much like that throughout her life. Gray was an amazing friend and a tough-minded mentor. She is survived by her daughter Rachel, her sons Joshua and Colin, two sisters-in-law, and five grandchildren.
