Elijah Wilson Ybor City killed in Tampa mass shooting, Tyrell Phillips arrested

Elijah Wilson Death – Loved ones have identified 14-year-old son, Elijah Wilson as one of the two victims that was killed in the mass shooting that happened during Halloween festivities on Sunday. The tragic incident also left 18 other injured. Emmitt Wilson, Elijah’s father confirmed to the members of the press that his son was on the victims. Emmitt arrived at the scene on Sunday after receiving word that his kid was a victim.

During a press conference held at the location of the shooting, Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw stated that at least two people opened fire just before 3 a.m. in the Ybor City neighborhood. Later on Sunday, he reported that investigators had detained a 22-year-old man named Tyrell Stephen Phillips in connection with the shooting.

He was arrested and charged with murder in the second degree with the use of a handgun. Earlier, authorities stated that one suspect was in custody and at least one other was being sought; however, Bercaw would not immediately disclose Sunday afternoon whether police were still seeking anyone else after Phillips’ arrest; this was despite the fact that authorities had previously stated that one suspect was in custody and at least one other was being sought.

Officials and local reports state that Phillips was detained in jail pending his initial court appearance on Monday. It was not immediately clear whether or not Phillips had legal representation at the time of his arrest.

The brawl broke out in the early morning hours in a neighborhood that is now home to a number of pubs and clubs but was formerly the epicenter of Tampa’s cigar industry. A spokeswoman for the Tampa Police Department named Jonee Lewis stated that “hundreds” of people were on the streets at the time of the gunshots on Sunday because a number of nightclubs and other drinking establishments had just shut down. In more recent years, the area has become known for its active nightlife.
