Edna Runner Tutorial Center, Longtime Jupiter-area resident died at 72

Edna Runner Death – Longtime Jupiter-area resident Edna Runner has passed away unexpectedly. Edna Runner of Edna W. Runner Tutorial Center was announced dead on Friday. She died at the age of 72. Edna was a community trailblazer who believed the children of West Jupiter deserved an opportunity to live the American dream. No cause of death was reported for Edna Runner.

About Edna Runner

For 37 years, Runner extended after-school care to numerous at-risk students in Limestone Creek. Among her cherished moments were the reunions with former students as they progressed in their lives.

Having served as the executive director of the center since 2002, Runner’s connections trace back to the Limestone Creek neighborhood, situated north of Indiantown Road, where the center is located.

Her roots in the community run deep, with her family’s move from South Carolina to the area in 1955, prompted by her father’s employment in road construction on what would later become Florida’s Turnpike.

Runner attributes her early desire to teach and assist children to her upbringing. Being the fifth of eight siblings, much of her time was dedicated to aiding her younger brothers and sisters with their schoolwork.

Tutorial center in Jupiter named for Edna Runner in 2011

Several years later, she initiated her journey in the field of education by becoming a teacher in the preschool program at Limestone Creek Elementary. Recognizing an increasing demand for after-school services, Runner and a group of individuals established a tutorial program in the basement of the Church of God in Jupiter, situated to the east of the center’s present location on Church Street, back in 1986.

This initiative was dubbed the West Jupiter Tutorial Center. In 1993, the center was relocated to its current address on Church Street. A significant expansion took place in 2011, and in honor of Runner, it was subsequently renamed.

Obituary and Funeral arrangements for Edna Runner have not been made by the family.
