The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is looking for witnesses to a gunshot that happened on New Year’s Day on southbound State Route 161 (Meridian Avenue) around 176th Street East.

Just after 6 p.m. Monday, a 16-year-old girl driver was eastbound on 176th Street in a black 2001 Lexus Sedan with an 18-year-old male front seat passenger. As they passed 78th Avenue, they were involved in a road rage incident with another unknown car.

As the two vehicles neared Meridian Ave., an unknown vehicle’s passenger hurled an unknown object at the Lexus. Both vehicles proceeded south on Meridian Avenue. As the Lexus driver attempted to accelerate away, the mystery car fired a single shot in their direction. The bullet passed through the rear windshield, the passenger side headrests, and impacted the male passenger in the back of the head. The mystery car exited the area after the incident, and the driver of the Lexus stopped into a neighboring business parking lot.

Fortunately, the bullet did not go any deeper than the skin, and the passenger’s injuries are not life-threatening.
