They credit the people they met at the site with being angels. Melanie Brown stated in reference to her husband Dennis that “He has always been a truck driver.” Dennis Brown started driving a semi-truck when he was 16 years old and lived in De Smet. This occupation has remained a constant in his life ever since.
Brown stated that despite having logged over 5.5 million miles behind the wheel, the individual in question had never been involved in a collision nor been cited for speeding. But on the 12th of July, while her husband was traveling for work, Melanie received the phone call that she had never in their four decades of marriage ever remotely anticipated receiving.
On Wednesday, just after noon, Dennis and another semi-truck collided with each other in a construction zone on southbound Interstate 35 just north of Faribault, Minnesota The intensity of the accident rapidly caught the attention of other drivers on the road, and they swiftly came to a stop.
“They called 911 and reported that there had been an accident, and then they drove to the opposite side of the interstate and ran over to see if they could assist in any way.” Someone just mentioned that we have a good feeling about the possibility that whoever was in that truck is no longer there. As she approached the truck, she could hear the driver yelling for assistance. She said that “this person is still alive.” It is imperative that we assist him,'” Brown stated.
A large number of additional motorists who were parked behind the accident scene on the freeway responded to the cry for assistance. Deputy Hanson was the first person to arrive at the site and soon determined that Dennis was stuck inside the building.
