Thursday will feature a candlelight vigil in remembrance of a woman who was murdered one week ago in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Tuesday found the body of 21-year-old Diomaris Mejia in the basement of a Salem Street residence, according to a law enforcement source who spoke to NBC10 Boston and Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra.

Authorities report that Santana Guerrero Temporo, 53, was apprehended on Friday in Texas as a fugitive in relation to the murder of Mejia. January 10 will mark the arraignment of the fugitive charge against Guerrero Temporo in a Texas court, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

The 53-year-old, however, may waive extradition prior to his hearing, as stated by the office of the district attorney. However, he will remain in Texas until “one of those events transpires” in the interim. Immediately, neither the means by which he traveled from Massachusetts to Texas nor the presence of legal counsel who could comment on his apprehension were known.

Her family stated that Mejia had two young children who reside in the Dominican Republic and that she desired to provide them with a better existence.
