Deanna Molinaro Death – DEBRA Director and Patient Ambassador Deanna Molinaro has sadly passed away. She was confirmed dead by DEBRA Canada through a social media publication that read “It is with a very heavy heart that the DEBRA Canada Board of Directors relays the sad news that DEBRA Director and Patient Ambassador Deanna Molinaro passed away yesterday from complications due to EB at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, Ontario.”
“Deanna will be greatly missed. She touched the lives of so many and made an enormous impact, as she made it her mission to raise EB awareness on an international scale. Deanna was a dedicated DEBRA Canada board member, a talented artist, and above all, a dear friend to so many. We know our DEBRA Canada supporters have a special place in their hearts for Deanna, and join us in extending our sincere condolences to the entire Molinaro family.” DEBRA Canada also wrote.
What happened to Deanna Molinaro?
According to Deanna’s website, at birth, she was diagnosed with Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa, EB for short. (EB is a rare genetic skin disorder causing blistering and shearing of the skin). She lacks collagen 7 which is the glue that holds the skin together, as a result, her body is covered almost 80% in open wounds. Over the years the art of drawing, painting, fashion, and design helped her push through the numerous challenges life has thrown her way.
Born in Canada in 1992, there was very little knowledge, let alone professional guidance, on how to treat her EB, she wrote. Her parents took it upon themselves to seek support elsewhere by way of Rockefeller University Hospital and just a few short years later in 1996, they became the founding members of Debra Canada. It was from that moment on that Deanna became Canada’s first voice for many EB patients.
Who was Deanna Molinaro?
Deanna Molinaro was an emerging contemporary artist from Hamilton Ontario Canada. She was well-known in Stoney Creek as an artist, painter, designer, illustrator, aspiring wardrobe stylist, costume designer, and published writer/illustrator. Deanna was a dedicated DEBRA Canada board member, a talented artist, and above all, a dear friend to so many.
She went to Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School from 2006 to 2010 and attended Sheridan College from 2011 to 2013 where obtained an Art Fundamentals Diploma in Visual Arts. She later studied Visual and Creative Arts from 2014 to 2017 at Sheridan College.
