David Herring Death – David Herring, a resident of Plano, Texas, and a teacher and band director at Shepton High School has sadly passed away. He was announced dead through a social media publication made by the Shepton’s band on their Instagram handle on Friday, August 11th, 2023. The circumstances surrounding his cause of death were not immediately made public by the family at the time of this publication.
No words can express how incredibly grateful Shepton is for you! Today we lost a loved one. Anyone who was blessed to come in contact with him knows how big his heart was. He loved everyone, favorites were never a thing with him, and we are truly broken to see him leave like this. It is a shame to know that some children will never be blessed with his love. We know he is watching over us all, cheering everyone of his kids on! He loved us more than we could ever know! To everyone who knew him, it will be okay. He would want us to keep playing music, laughing, and enjoying life to the fullest like he did! So keep going because it will be okay! We love you Mr. Herring
Who was David Herring?
For an extensive span of over 19 years, David Herring dedicated himself to the field of education as a distinguished public school teacher. His passion extended beyond the classroom, encompassing a remarkable tenure of more than 9 years as the director of bands at Shepton High School.
Before his time at Shepton, he imparted knowledge for 4 years at Jasper High School, followed by 5 enriching years within the Princeton Independent School District, and an additional year at the Commerce Independent School District. In earlier stages of his career, David contributed as a private lesson instructor in Plano and Frisco, during a period when Frisco consisted of just 1 High School and 1 Middle School.
About David Herring
His educational journey was further enhanced by his academic achievements. David earned his BM in trombone performance from Henderson State University, an accomplishment that laid the foundation for his musical expertise. Subsequently, he pursued his MM at the University of Illinois, solidifying his mastery in the field.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David’s personal life was enriched by the presence of his beloved wife, Michelle, whose companionship was a source of joy. Together, they are proud parents to two remarkable children, Graeme and Brennan, both of whom are on the spectrum. This aspect of his life adds depth to his experiences and influences his perspective on education and compassion.
Fundraising for David Herring’s funeral

Mr. Herring was beloved by so many, his kindness and loving nature ever-present as he taught for over 19 years in the PISD system, transmitting to our band students his love and utter joy for music with every note. As he would say “Musically yours” and “I am sensing a presence!” We will miss you dearly Mr. Herring!
