She was announced dead by her beloved husband in a social media publication that says “With heavy heart, I regret to inform you that at exactly 630pm My Crystal took last breath in this world. She fought hard for 4 months and refused to give in, and even though she lost the battle against this deadly disease she gained something so much greater. My crystal gained her angel wings.”

What was Crystal Villegas’ cause of death?

In February of this year, Crystal underwent a procedure in Matamoros, Mexico. However, shortly after, she began experiencing severe headaches. Initially diagnosed with migraines, her condition did not improve, leading to multiple hospital visits. Eventually, in mid-April, she was admitted with a diagnosis of fungal meningitis and has remained in the ICU since. Despite her brave fight, she succumbed to the illness.

Tragically, it has been reported that nine people have lost their lives after receiving procedures involving epidural anesthesia in Matamoros, as per the CDC. The outbreak has been linked to two clinics, River Side Surgical Center and Clinica K-3, which have since been closed as of May 13.

Who was Crystal Villegas?

Crystal Villegas was a longtime resident of Brownsville, Texas, born on April 25th, 1992. She went to Hanna Early College High School and also studied at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). She was the Store Manager and Owner of Blazing Boxing & Fitness and also a Licensed professional at World Financial Group (WFG). She was a well-known Licensed Financial Services Agent, Business Leader, Retirement Plan Specialist, and investment strategies.

Crystal was not only a caring wife to her husband Johnny “Juan” Tapia but also a devoted mother to three children: an 8-month-old, a 3-year-old, and a 7-year-old. Her warm and welcoming personality made her popular within the community, and she also garnered a sizable online presence by sharing fitness and life advice, amassing a large social media following. Her dedication to her family and her passion for helping others positively impacted the lives of many, both offline and online.
