Chicago South Shore Shooting: 1 Dead, Another Critically Injured On 71 Street Near Jefferson

CHICAGO — After an argument on Thursday evening in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood forced a neighboring security officer to get involved, Chicago police confirmed that one man passed away and another is in critical condition as a result of the incident. According to the authorities, the incident took place on 71st Street near Jeffrey outside of a Walgreens shop.
At the site, there were multiple evidence markers that were set in close proximity to shot casings. An unnamed local resident was overheard saying, “It’s really unfortunate to have to live in a neighborhood where you don’t feel safe.”
According to the investigators, a man aged 22 and another man aged 25 got into a heated altercation that continued to escalate after the older man shot the younger man in the torso. A security guard working at a nearby store witnessed the shooting, so he took out his own weapon and fired at the man who was 25 years old.
At Cook County Hospital, the security guard also serves as a reserve officer for the local police department. “When he heard the shots being fired along the Walgreens, he did come out, identify himself, and respond fire,” a nearby resident named Ian McGhee said. “When he heard the shots being fired along the Walgreens.”
After being shot, the man, who was 25 years old, was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, but he did not survive his injuries and passed away there. His name has not been made public at this time.Herman Bonslater, a local neighbor, was overheard saying, “We have a problem here.” “If there was a car sitting here, especially a police car, it would put a stop to a lot of the things that are happening that shouldn’t be happening.”
McGhee has high expectations that increasing the number of events focused on the community will help put an end to the violence in his neighborhood. “It’s just another instance of crime in the city of Chicago that we, as citizens of this community and Chicago at large, do have a hand in stopping,” McGhee said. “We do have a hand in stopping it.” Another person who was shot was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where it was first stated that he was in severe condition. This person is 22 years old.
