Charlie Dominici, Dream Theater former singer has died

Charlie Dominici Death – Charlie Dominici, former Dream Theater singer has passed away, he was best known as the second vocalist for the progressive metal band Dream Theater, having replaced Chris Collins and later being replaced by James LaBrie. Mike Portnoy confirmed the news of his passing on social media. Charlie’s unexpected passing is a tremendous loss to everyone in the Dream Theater family,

Charlie was the voice of DT on our debut album ‘When Dream And Day Unite’, recorded back in 1988. Beyond being a great singer, he also was an incredibly talented songwriter and well rounded musician on both guitar and keyboards.

While they parted ways with him in late 1989, he always remained a friend…fronting the band that played at mine & Marlene’s wedding in 1994, reuniting w DT for WDADU’s 15th anniversary show in 2004, opening for DT in Europe with his solo band in 2007 and coming to see myself & JP on our tour together in 2022.

About Charlie Dominici

Charlie Dominici was born in Brooklyn, New York, but his family moved to the Five Towns section of Nassau County, which is located on Long Island, not long after Charlie’s birth. In his professional life, he first came to be known for his work as a member of Franke and the Knockouts, in which he was responsible for playing the guitar and sang backing vocals. In 1987, he participated in an audition for Dream Theater, and in November of the same year, he was offered the job.

When Dream and Day Unite, the band’s first album, was released in 1989, and Dominici played on it. Dominici was significantly older than the other members of the band, and there were also disparities in terms of personal style and creative output at play. It was considered that while being a very skilled singer, his obviously “pop” vocal style did not fit in with the particular progressive path that the band’s compositions were pursuing.
