Carson Philbin Death: A 24-year-old SCAD-The University for Creative Careers and the University of South Carolina student has been identified as the victim who passed away after being swept away in Hawaii waters over the weekend. Carson Philbin, of Charlotte, North Carolina died following a drowning accident in waters off South Point in Ka‘ū on Saturday.

Authorities say a 24-year-old man from the mainland was swept out to sea and may have drowned Saturday morning in waters near South Point in Ka’ū. The Big Island police are currently investigating the incident. Officers from the Ka’ū Patrol of the Hawai’i Police Department arrived at the scene of multiple swimmers reported to be in difficulty in the South Point area shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Preliminary investigations determined that three adult males and one female leaped into the ocean at the “hoist” region. The severe ocean conditions caused them to have difficulty. Three of the four swimmers returned to land safely with the help of onlookers from the area. Nevertheless, an eyewitness stated that Philbin was sighted approximately 75 yards offshore before her sinking.
