Carrie Powell Death – Swain County High School Athletic Trainer Carrie Powell of Bryson City. North Carolina has died. She passed away sadly leaving those that knew her in shock. He was confirmed dead through a Facebook post that reads “It is with our deepest sympathy to inform you that over the weekend, Carrie Powell, our athletic trainer, passed away. She was loved by many people in Swain County”.  The actual cause of Carrie Powell’s death has not been revealed.

Carrie Powell Education

Carrie Powell, an accomplished professional in the field of sports medicine, boasts an impressive educational background. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Lenoir-Rhyne and pursued further studies in Emergency Medicine Care (EMC) as an NC paramedic, specializing in management from Western Carolina University. Joining Harris Ortho & Sports Med & Swain HS in 2003, Carrie brought with her a wealth of experience gained from serving as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for various collegiate sports, including Men’s soccer, Football, Men’s basketball, Women’s softball, and Volleyball.

Prior to her tenure at Harris Ortho & Sports Med & Swain HS, she held the position of Head Athletic Trainer at two High Schools in Hickory, working under a local orthopedic group. Beyond her role as a certified athletic trainer, Carrie possesses a rare and invaluable background in Emergency Medicine and Paramedic services.

Carrie Powell Career

She played a pivotal role in the implementation and management of Swain County Schools’ AED and EpiPen/Anaphylaxis programs, contributing significantly to Swain County Safe Schools’ initiatives. Carrie was actively involved in coordinating school sports physicals and overseeing football coverage for SCHS, working closely with the team physicians. Her expertise extends to being an NCHSAA (North Carolina High School Athletic Association) certified NWCA OPC – Assessor for wrestling. With over two decades of experience in orthopedic and sports medicine, Carrie has developed a profound understanding of the field.

Her passion for addressing concussions was evident, and she possesses a comprehensive understanding of the ImPACT system. Carrie serves as the “ImPACT system manager” for Carolina West – Sports Medicine, showcasing her commitment to advancing the field.
